The Polynesian Cultural Center is a must-see for anyone who is visiting Hawaii for the first time. Let me start by saying skip breakfast or eat a light snack in the morning because they have a big buffet at the end of your day.
The buffet at the end of your day at the center is huge. As my Samoan friend always says, “Polynesians love their buffets!” He is correct.
At the Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu Hawaii, you will wander around a beautifully landscaped property and learn about each of the Polynesian islands. There are stories, palm branch hat-making, songs, fire dancing, and tree climbing.
My favorites were Fiji and Samoa. Fiji is just plain fascinating and wild and fun. And I have Samoan friends in Seattle, so I loved learning about Samoan history too. The raft parade is a peaceful and entertaining wind-down after your exploring.
During your visit, each island is represented in a colorful boat parade featuring song and dance.
You can make palm branch hats, watch Samoans climbing palm trees, and watch plays. This is all especially fantastic for curious adults and all kids.
Your day closes with a dinner and show which includes a glorious buffet (save room!) and should you choose to splurge, a drink in a pineapple.
Arrival can be a little chaotic since many guests come in by tour bus; but, once you get past the check-in process, the center is very peaceful. I do recommend keeping a timely pace, however, as the day goes by faster than you think and there is a lot to see.
Before you know it, you’re sipping out of a pineapple and watching fire dancers in the dark. No complaints from this girl.
