Salt & Straw Ice Cream in Portland, Oregon

Oprah featured Salt & Straw Ice Cream in Portland, Oregon in her magazine. Therefore you need to go. No, really, you do. But not because Oprah says so. Go because it’s one of the original funky flavor ice cream shops.

Honey lavender… but we’re just getting started. In a line. That goes down the block.

And when we get up to the menu. Strawberry With Cilantro Lime Cheesecake? Pear With Blue Cheese? Arbequina Olive Oil? Don’t worry. there are ample samples. You is brave.

No waffling. You’ve made it to the front of the line. Make yourself try at least one creatively crazy flavor. You got this.

Me? I tried the Arbequina Olive Oil. And it was lovely. And the Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper. And it was lovely.  But I bought vanilla. I didn’t want to gloat in my bravery.

Deanna’s love for baking and cooking first began when she sat upon a baker’s stool as a little girl. Her love for people grew in the midst of church potlucks. Today, she expresses these loves creatively through speaking engagements and food writing. Deanna hosted guests, including celebrities, at her award-winning B&B in the Snoqualmie Valley. Deanna has been seen on both local and national television with her Saucy Balsamic Burgers which knocked 'N Sync's Joey Fatone to his knees. Besides her children, Deanna’s mud pie is one of the most beautiful things she has ever created.
