Maple Nut Granola

Preheat oven to 250°F.

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons maple extract
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 5 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cups almonds
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Place brown sugar, honey, maple extract, and butter in a large bowl. Mix until well-combined. Stir in oats, almonds, and walnuts. Coat well with the sweet coating.

Coat a half sheet pan with butter or nonstick spray.

Spread granola onto the sheet pan. Place into the preheated oven and bake for 60 minutes. Sprinkle with about 1/2 teaspoon of salt immediately after removing from the oven. If your oven cooks hotter in the back than the front, you will want to turn the tray around halfway through the baking time so both sides of the tray cook evenly.

Sprinkle the granola with salt while it is hot from the oven.

Turn the oven off and allow the tray of granola to sit inside the hot oven with the oven door cracked open until the oven has completely cooled.

Store cooled granola in Ziploc bags or airtight plastic containers.

Tip: When sprinkling salt, it is always best to do so from about a foot above the pan with generous sweeping movement so that the salt is evenly disbursed over your dish.
