How to Properly Cook Store-Bought Pasta

Here are the basic steps for cooking great noods for pasta salads or hot dishes.

How to Properly Cook Store-Bought Pasta

  1. Fill a large pot with about 4 quarts of water.
  2. Add 4-5 teaspoons of salt
  3. Place the pot over high heat and bring to a boil.
  4. After the water reaches a rolling boil, add your pasta and give it a stir. You can reduce the heat to medium-low if needed.
  5. Immediately set a timer for the lowest amount of time on the container’s instructions. ie. If it says to cook 8-10 minutes, set the timer for 8 minutes.
  6. Stir once or twice during the cooking process to prevent your noods from sticking together.
  7. Try the pasta after the timer goes off. If it isn’t ready, cook for 1-2 more minutes.
  8. Drain the pasta.
  9. If making pasta salad rinse the noodles with cold water and let them cool before adding your salad dressing. If making a hot dish, you can stir in a little olive oil.
