How to Make Crackers

Makes about twenty-four 2-inch crackers.

Preheat oven to 400°F.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour or wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive or grapeseed oil
  • 3/4 cup water (plus a little more if needed)

Spray two half-sheet pans with non-stick spray or line them with parchment paper.

Place flour, sugar, and salt in a food processor or mixing bowl. Quickly process or mix to combine dry ingredients evenly.

Turn processor or electric mixer with flat beater onto low and drizzle in oil and then water. Process only until dough forms a ball. If it doesn’t become a dough ball, add a tablespoon more water at a time until it does become one. Don’t over-process or kneed the dough.

Remove the dough from the food processor or mixer and break it into two pieces. Place one on a lightly floured surface.  Roll it to about 1/16th of an inch thick.

Using a pastry brush, brush a minimal amount of water over the top of the rolled-out cracker dough. Sprinkle the top evenly with Everything Bagel Seasoning or flakey salt.

Place on a prepared tray. Bake for about 15 minutes or until light golden brown. Baking time will vary according to cracker thickness and how much water has been brushed on the top.

Serve these beauties with soups, salads, homemade butter, or as part of a gorgeous grazing tray.
