How to Make Bacon Jam

How to Make Bacon Jam. Your life is about to get much better. You’re welcome.

Bacon Jam

Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • 1 pound thick-cut bacon
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium sweet onion, fine diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon maple extract
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon coarse ground pepper

Line a baking sheet with foil. Lay bacon slices across the pan evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes (thinner bacon will cook faster). If using thin bacon, just cook less time.

Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Add diced onion. Cook onion until translucent. Add minced garlic, stirring occasionally.

Add remaining ingredients and bacon. Bring to a boil while stirring over medium-high heat for about 2 minutes. The reduce the heat a bit and cook for about 30 minutes or until it is thick.

Store in a jar in the refrigerator. Bring to room temperature or reheat to use. If you find your jam is too thick, just add a little water, stir, and reheat until it’s saucy again.

This jam is a perfect addition to various recipes like atop a burger or even with brussel sprouts. It is especially fantastic on olive oil-coated, oven-toasted French bread as a bruschetta appetizer as shown.

Make this as hostess gifts for all of your holiday parties, and you will be invited back every year. Unless, of course, you overdo the martinis. That, I cannot help you with. But there will always be bacon jam.
