Barbecue Sauce

Drumettes

Brown about 3 pounds of chicken drumettes in olive oil in a large frying pan until the meat has been seared on all sides.

Place 1/4 of the barbecue sauce aside in a bowl (don’t let it come in contact with the raw chicken). Place chicken drumettes in a large, shallow baking dish and coat with the remaining 3/4 cup of the barbecue sauce and your choice of water, apple juice, or chicken broth. The liquid will evaporate so water is fine; but, the juice or broth will just add more flavor to your dish.

Place in oven at 350°F for about 1 hour or until the thickest part of the chicken drumettes reach 165° when tested with a meat thermometer. If you’d rather, you can cook drummettes in a slow cooker for about 2 hours instead.

When finished, drumettes will be bubbling with steamy goodness and ready to eat with a thick barbecue sauce. You can use the remaining sauce for dipping or save it for another day.

Grilling Chicken

For barbecuing, turn the grill on medium heat. Cook chicken until the thickest part reaches 165°F when tested with a meat thermometer.

Omit the extra liquid options and just brush the barbecue sauce over meat a few minutes before it’s finished cooking so the sugars in the sauce don’t instigate burning. Make sure extra sauce does not touch the raw chicken and you can use it for dipping if you desire more, or keep it in the refrigerator or freezer for future use.
